Not Another Cover Letter
but click for a sound that's a masterpiece
The Why
I’ve never been a fan of cookie-cutter cover letters. They rarely say anything real. So I decided to approach mine the same way I approach design: make it meaningful, make it stand out.
The result was a video cover letter built entirely from film clips: each line carefully selected to simulate a dialogue between me and the person watching.
What could’ve been a one-way pitch became something more dynamic: a familiar, fast-paced exchange that captured attention and revealed personality without a single typed sentence.
It invited the viewer in, made them part of the moment, and challenged the idea that introductions need to be formal to be effective.
The Idea
Each scene was selected to reflect qualities you’d typically list in a CV: ambition, creativity, focus... but done in a way that felt natural and unexpected. Think less “here are my skills,” and more “here’s how I think, and here’s how I want to connect.”
The Outcome
The video sparked real conversations. It stood out. It also ended up on Stefan Sagmeister’s Instagram, which was surreal.
Of course, a repost isn’t a job offer... but it was a reminder that bold, intentional ideas make people pause, remember, and engage.
The Sagmeister shoutout (and a big reality check):
At some point, Stefan Sagmeister shared the video. Unexpected? Yes. Flattering? Uhm yes.
Did it lead to a flurry of job offers, speaking gigs, or a Netflix documentary? Sadly, no.
But it did prove that a weird little idea, done well, can end up in the right feed.
No overnight success story: just a brief, glorious moment of internet validation. I’ll take it.
